Review Officer Next Door by Ranae Rose

Description
How can anyone resist temptation when it's right next door?

Riley County North Carolina has a lot to offer: coastal views as far as the eye can see, and men in uniform who are even more gorgeous. Home to the most notorious prison in the state, Alicia's new hometown is crawling with men who carry their own handcuffs and know how to use them - like Officer Liam Alexander, her one and only neighbor. After catching him out of uniform, she can't resist pausing to enjoy the show. When Liam's Southern charm drives him across the property line, life gets hotter than the Carolina summer could possibly account for. Unfortunately, there's a dark side to life in the coastal haven, even with an officer next door.

Coordinating special events at a historic - and supposedly haunted - plantation is enough to have Alicia questioning her senses and her sanity, but the spirits of the past take a backseat to a pair of escaped convicts who blaze a trail of mayhem across Riley County. Not even the most intense chemistry can survive the perils that make a sunny seaside town a dangerous place to be after dark ... can it?

My Review

This is a new series from Ranae Rose.  The Lock and Key series is located in Riley County, North Carolina which I love as well I am from North Carolina.
The main characters Liam and Alicia are just great for each other, they both are guilty of being peeping tom's, sizing up each other's assets so to say. Alicia is accident prone and ends up falling into Liam more than once. She is a city girl who is new to the area and works at a "haunted" plantation where a woman in white is said to warn people of danger.

Liam is a protective alpha male who works at the prison... when dangerous criminals escape and start killing people Liam has to not only do his job but also now worry about Alicia. Who is staying at his house for safety.

Throw in a cute dog who steals panties, meddling friends, dangerous criminals, steamy scenes and a couple of random ghosts you get a great read that is fast paced, exciting with great characters.

I thought that Ranae Rose did a great job with the first book of this series and I am looking forward to more.

Promises Hurt by Elle Brooks Review Tour

Promises Hurt By Elle Brooks

Published August 2, 2014

Synopsis

I wasn't planning on falling for Ethan Jamison, hell I wasn't planning on our paths ever crossing. He’s the most popular guy at school and a complete player. Me; I’m the perpetual good girl, trying to carry out one last request. But when you make a promise, how far do you go to see it through?

~ Blair

It’s a running joke that I’m a terrible liar, if only people knew the truth. My whole life has been spent making excuses and deflecting questions. I was pretty good at it until Blair Thomas entered my world. She saw through the mask that everyone is so willing to accept. She makes me want to tell her all my secrets, but can she promise to keep them?

~ Ethan

Excerpt

I look down at my cell and it’s 4:54pm. No sign of Ethan. No text to explain. What a douche. I mean, okay so I needed to be here anyway to collect books, but that’s not the point. He didn't know that. I can’t stand people that make plans and then break them without warning. It takes two seconds to send a text.
I’m packing up my things when Ethan Jamison barges through the library doors. He’s panting like he’s out of breath and his eyes are frantically scanning the almost empty room. Then they land on me. I stand completely frozen, mouth gaping like a total moron. Of freakingcourse it has to be that Ethan. He makes his way over, and the sound of his boots echoing through the otherwise silent room awakens me from my dumbstruck state. Emily’s letter flashes in my mind and I feel instantly embarrassed. Like, somehow he knows about it, which of course, he can’t, but I’m still panicking.
He stops a few feet short of my table and looks a little unsure. This isn't the cocky Ethan Jamison that struts around school thinking he’s god’s gift. It’s thrown me a little.
“Hey, um…I’m Ethan,” he says, looking down at me. He lays his guitar case down at his feet and then adjusts his backpack on his shoulders. “Are you the tutor, I mean, sorry…are you Blair?”
I never realized how tall he actually is up close and personal. I’ve seen him play at a gig for about two seconds once, but he was on a stage, so of course he’s gonna look taller than everyone else. Emily and I have only stalked him at a distance. His blue eyes are boring into mine and I'm just standing there. Staring. Like an idiot. He shifts his weight and I realize he’s asked me a question. I still haven't replied. Shit.
“Er…yeah, I’m Blair, nice to meet you. I was just about to go, I thought you weren't coming. You’re late.” The last part comes out all pissy like I'm mad at him.
An amused grin starts to form; his mouth pulling up slightly at one side and the boy has dimples—real life honest-to-god dimples.
I shake my head and practically bark out, “I’ve been waiting for you for almost a half hour. If you’re gonna be late when we meet, you could at least give me a heads up?” Oh my god, why the hell am I telling him off?
His smile widens and he’s not even trying to look sorry. He drops his backpack on the table and takes a seat.
“Yeah, I had practice and it ran over. Steve has a no phone rule, so it’s kinda hard to let you know when I don't have my cell.”
Steve is the music professor; he’s got the new age hippy vibe going on and makes all his students call him by his first name. I pull my chair back out and take a seat. “Okay. Well, um, let’s just get started then.”
I look up and his eyes are zeroed in on my chest. What a complete douche, he’s already ogling my boobs. I cough twice and raise my eyebrows in a ‘what the hell, my eyes are up here’ stare, and his cheeks immediately redden.
“Shit, no, I wasn't checking you out! I mean…um, I wasn't staring at your…fuck, well I kinda was but I mean, shit; I was just trying to read what your shirt says.”
Holy crap, this guy’s more awkward than I am.

My Review

I honestly don't know where to start with this book. When I started reading it, I thought Oh no this is going to be one of high school YA books that no way was I going to be able to connect with the characters. But I will have to tell you I was surprised to be proven wrong and then yes I ended up emotionally upset.

The book starts out with Blair making a promise to her best friend Emily that she would be ok... Fast forward 3 years Emily dies leaving Blair a letter. In it has a bucket list that is not finished and Emily leaves Blair with the responsibility of finishing the bucket list. That is touching and heart breaking for anyone to deal with but the story isn't about Blair and Emily (I thought it was going to be)... It is the story of Blair and Ethan.

Ethan, OMG that boy deals with so much crap, I feel for him. Blair is the only one who sees him for him. She has to deal with tons of high school bullshit but both of the stick it out and love each other. He is dealt some heavy blows both figuratively and actually. Emily is his saving grace and gives him something worth living for.

Blair grows while being with Ethan, she often feels bad for moving forward and living while Emily died. She spend most of her high school with Emily while she was sick and missed out on most of her high school experience. Being with Ethan she learns that moving forward isn't about forgetting Emily it is about living and enjoying life.

Blair and Ethan become serious and things seem to look good for them. They love each other but like any story there has to be a misunderstanding which leaves to poor choices and heartache.

I hate ruining stories, but I do have to warn you that Elle Brooks does leave this with an epic heart wrenching cliff-hanger. I won't lie I almost threw my kindle across the room and woke hubby up because i was so pissed. Pissed because I couldn't keep reading( I am one of those who love to hate cliffhangers).

I loved this story and cannot wait for the second book... because I need to know what happens next. My heart can't take the waiting.

Overall this is a great first book. I look forward to reading more from Elle Brooks even though YA isn't my go to genre I know that I will be putting Elle Brooks on my buy list.

My Review

All the books in this anthology, even if they are the first part of novella series or a complete story are great. I love when i can read a book and it be filled with all my favorite military romance authors plus some other authors who I have never read.

The anthology as a whole has a little bit for everyone there are suspense, wounded warriors, erotic, series stories and yes heartbreaking stories also. Of course a couple of my favorites J.M Madden and Sharon Hamilton are in this anthology, I never have a bad thing to say about these ladies their books are also an auto buy for me.

Gennita Low has the first part of her book The Seal... I loved it and was highly disappointed when I couldn't keep reading... I hate waiting for the next part of a story especially when it pulls it in.

I love Cindy Dees... I have never read any of her books before but I loved how she integrated a female SEAL into the antho. Tina and Ford where great together and I am excited to read more books by her.

Anne Elisabeth and Cat Johnson's stories where both engaging and complete stories with some sizzling sex scenes... Thank you Anne I don't think I will workout in a gym without thinking about practice mats.

Cristin Harber, Sabrina York and Elle James all their stories have some form of action in it... that give the stories a real aspect which I really enjoyed. When chaos and gunfights can bring the hero and heroine together I enjoy the read even more.

P.T Michelle's story is more of an erotic story and I truly look forward to reading more about Mr. Black. As the past connects with the present I can't wait to see what happens next. For me it was more a teaser for her story which i love and hate... as I wanted to keep reading.

Delilah Devlin has a way of writing feisty heroines who are not afraid of taking what they want. In this case a independent daughter of a Congressman meets harden SEAL who takes his job seriously. There is some seriously hot scenes in this book and not every female needs a male to save her.

Teresa Reasor is an author that will always have me crying at some part... her story is filled with heartbreaking news, tons of love, and show the give and pull that deployed families deal with.

Overall this is a wonderful anthology and I can read it again and again.

Will he take a leap of  faith and tell her how he feels? How he's always felt? Or will the woman he knows is meant to be his slip through his fingers a second time?

My Review
I have to say that I truly enjoyed this book... it is a fast read but felt complete there wasn't any real gaps. Trevor and Lorelei are truly meant to be together.

I like how strong and feisty Lorelei was even though she did have her doubts but she took a stand and told Trevor what she wanted and how she felt. Love that. Also Popcorn Balls is my new favorite saying.

Even though they seem to take things fast they have known each other for many years both hiding their true feelings. I love how they were thrown together and the ending was just perfect. What a wonderful short story which has the perfect Christmas Feel showing the acceptance of Family, Love and Happy Ever After.

Giving into temptation will make her world drop out from under her. Will she survive the plunge?

My Review

This book was my first from Connie Cox... I have to say That I did enjoy it and found myself not wanting to put it down. Selena and Eric have tons of Romantic tension which has you wanting to tell them to get over it and be together. Thankfully we have Blair who wants to see her friends happy with each other. Selena is a very loyal and hard working assistant to Blair even working as her body double for fittings, and believes like most of the world does that Eric and Selena are in a relationship. When she find out that Eric and Blair are not together that changes her whole view on Eric's availability. I very much enjoyed this book found it interesting, the characters where well rounded and meshed well together, and it didn't feel rushed and ended they way it should. It was an easy read with a fun feel especially with the dialogue between the characters. Will be reading more of Connie Cox in the future that is for sure.

Review Viking Fire By Andrea R. Cooper

Description
856 CE, Ireland is a land of myth, magic, and blood. Viking raiders have fought the Irish for over half a century. Rival Irish clans promise only betrayal and carnage.

Kaireen, daughter of Laird Liannon, is suddenly forced into an arranged marriage with her sworn enemy, a Viking. She refuses to submit. With no mention of love, only land and the protection of her clan, she endeavors to get her betrothed banished from her country. Will love find its way around her stubborn heart?

Bram the, Viking, finds himself without future or inheritance as a younger son in his family. A marriage to the Laird's daughter would grant him land if he swears fidelity and if his men will fight along with the Liannons against any foe- Irish or Viking. However, the Laird's feisty daughter only holds animosity for him and his kind. Is marriage worth the battle scars or such a relentless opponent?

With the blame for a rivals laird's death treacherously set against the Liannons, Kaireen and Bram must find a way to lay aside their differences as an unforeseen darkness sends death snapping at their heels.

My Review

First off let me tell you that I really liked this book. It wasn't the typical Viking "Romance" novel. It had a good back story and the characters were pretty well rounded.

Kaireen the heroine is strong, feisty, and determined however she is also very stubborn and in all honesty kind of a brat. I didn't really care for her spoil rottenness but thankfully she outgrew that. She does get kinda sulky but sometimes you got to be knocked down a peg to be able to see things in perspective. I enjoyed her character but the whining and why me did get to me a bit.

Bram is the hero and he is very much a Viking however he is respectful and has a good heart. He is determined to marry Kaireen and make things work, you have to root for him because he is the perfect hero.

The secondary characters are also very well rounded and make this book very enjoyable and having a bit of drama and mystery is always good in a book. Elva is very important in the book she is always there right when you actually "need" her, however I won't spoil anything but she tends to be one of my favorites in this book .

This book has everything you could ask for, Romance, Feisty Heroine, Strong Hero, Well rounded characters, action, mystery and even a bit of magic. Viking Fire was the first book by Andrea R Cooper that I have ever read and I have to say I am impressed and will be reading more of her books. This book reminded why I like a good traditional Historical once in a while.
